Countdown to Aug '07 Contest Results

Greetings, fellow BP Contest Enthusiasts and Obsessives! The 15th is upon us, so it must be time to once again band together and quietly or clamorously await the verdict of The Judges!

Pull out those hambone chants, the classic cocktail recipes, the superstitions that surely speed up the judging, your favored chocolatey treats... whatever you need, to get through the days ahead, waiting, wishing, longing, hoping and repeatedly pressing F5... until the August Finalists & Winners are published later this month!

Note to the more highly-strung Obsessives among us... Due to the BP Summit being held in late September, and the record-high number of Contest Entries received in August (39,988!), start stockpiling your deepest reserves of patience now; the Contest Results could just possibly be... {gasp} ...delayed!
Now, onto the fun, and group therapy; all are welcome!

Please share with us that one photo you feel is your best chance to capture a Contest Medal this time. Or, perhaps, that one special image you really WISH would bring home the silver or gold, even if you feel it won't. And, it doesn't matter if the photo you choose share here has an EP medallion or not...
One gentle reminder: Please refrain from posting half a dozen of your past entries; ideally, this thread is about sharing that one, really special, excellent, meaningful, or otherwise favorite hopeful image of yours! Best of luck, to all Contestants!

Helpful notes, re: responding to Forum Threads and attaching photos:

1) Sign into BP completely (name + password.)

2) If you have NOT YET entered an image into the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" to pull a single, pre-existing image from your Member Center, into this thread (avoiding a duplicate image upload.) Obtain the particular Photo ID# from your Member Center. Come to this thread, click Respond, enter the text of your reply, then choose "1" from the images-to-attach drop-down. Click Submit, and on the next screen populate the "Photo ID" box at the far right. No need to fill in any of the other fields on that screen.

3) If you HAVE ALREADY made a Contest entry for today, before joining this thread, you cannot use the Photo ID method, today. You can either wait until tomorrow to reply here (before your Contest entry!) or, upload a new copy of the particular image (from your PC) to include in this thread now. This produces a duplicate image residing in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible, in your Gallery.

4) If you're uploading a duplicate in Step 3, you may wish to title it as "August Fav" so that it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on... Perhaps add "Original displayed in my Gallery" within the text description of the duplicate image; for viewers who want to comment on your image, this wording helps direct them to seek the original image in your gallery, instead.

5) Ergo, if you see a photo in this thread and want to comment on it, try to tell if it is a duplicate upload first. (Are there any older-dated comments already on it? Does it say "Original displayed in my Gallery"?) As a courtesy, try to find the original image in that person's gallery, and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate---that way, if they delete the duplicate a month later, they don't wipe out any comment history that should really belong with the original entry.

6) Lastly, make a record of all your current-month Contest Entries, each month-end! On the last night of the month, BP resets the "Current Entries" page in your Member Center, to make way for your entries in the new month. Keeping a record of monthly entries makes it easier to determine your favorite image later, when we start this thread next month!

Fellow BP'er Sue Rosin and I went out for an evening shoot on the National Mall, despite looming thunderstorms.
We approached the Lincoln Memorial with lightning in the distance, and tried our hand at captures there.
Eventually we made it to the WWII Memorial (this photo) and a new storm was brewing over Virginia,
with promising strikes. I was using a very long 30-second shutter, hoping that with some luck, a good lightning strike
would appear; I captured about 5 or 6 during the evening--this one was the big payoff; I yelled out loud when I saw it!

My favorite entry involved a good bit of luck; taking long exposures on the National Mall with Sue Rosin, hoping to catch lightning strikes. I got a few little ones, in the distance, and then this whopper came along!
