Nick, I have the Tokina in a Nikon mount and it is a very nice lens. Sharp, contrasty, good range for a DX format sensor, good price. It is built like a tank and feels very substantial when shooting.

I almost went with the Tokina after all the comparisions I read and backed off and bought a used Canon 17-40L. I couldn't be happier. Granted it isn't as wide on a cropped body as the ones you mention, but will also fit on a Canon 5D if I ever save enough money up. Out of all my lenses it one of my sharpest.
