Wireless Flash I'm thinking about buying a wireless radio transmitter system/wireless trigger system to use with my 580EX & was wondering; how do you connect the receiver to the flash? All I see on the flash is a 3-prong connection; which is for a battery pack. I'm assuming it has to be a hot shoe connection. Does that come with the receiver/transmitter system?

You need the Canon Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2, it goes on your camera hotshoe. It works very well. This link will tell you more: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-Speedlite-Transmitter-ST-E2-Review.phpx

Thanks Marius. What about something like the Microsync transmitter/ receiver system. Is there a way to connect those; or any other type of radio remote system to the 580EX flash?

Radio transmitter/receiver system can be used, but only without any auto flash exposure capability. It can only trigger the flash to fire. You would have to set the flash for a manual output level and determine exposure (ma nually set the aperture in Av or M) with a separate flash meter. Kind of a waste of the 580EX's extensive wireless E-TTL capabilities. You might as well use cheap non-dedicated flashes. Better is to get an E-TTL wireless controller (either the ST-E2 or another 550EX/580EX) and have full control over the flash fill ratios and auto exposure in all modes.

Thank You both. I'm convinced now to check out the ST-E2 & make full use of my 580EX.

You can use Paramount miniphone to female hotshoe. Just place your flash on the hotshoe then plug the miniphone jack to the receiver like pocketwizard. hope this help.
