Self Critic? Are you your own worst critic? Just when I think I have a good shot, I see more fabulous shots that someone else took. Of course, it drives me to try harder, but I just wondered if I'm not alone with this thought?

I'm definetly my worst critic! We have recently bought a second home and my husband wanted me to shoot some photos for our walls. Everything I shoot I personally wouldn't want on my walls, even though I've been told they would look great.

Margie, I just went to yoru gallery, you do so have great pics for your walls! My new home(being built) will be my studio. I will have a room built just for my photography and we decided our entire home will be decorated with my own photos. Now I *reallwant BW photos of Italy, so we're hoping to be able to go there, someday. ;O)

Worst or best - I'm not sure which! I agree, Lisa, whenever I think I have something good, I see a similar photo that just blows me away. There have been photos I have been very hesitant to post in my gallery that have been very well received by others (some have even been finalists!) I think part of my problem is that I know the look I want my photos to have and very rarely do I achieve it exactly as I envision it. Practice, practice, practice! And seeing all the wonderful photos at BP certainly helps to keep me sharp and pushing forward.

The more experienced we become,The more critical we become of our own work.

Yes and I am BAD! I take a photo on site, review it in camera, get home and love it, do some post processing on it (NO MATTER WHAT! - even when my histograms and exposure is top notch) and then I leave it alone. Next day, I come back and like it less. Next day it is good again... I am horrible!

I'm right there with you, Michael! I take a pic I love, see it on the computer and think "It's perfect the way it is!" But then get PS open and start playing and think, "how could I have liked it straight out of the camera, look at it now!" Then in a couple of days, I look again and criticize it all over again and either think I over-processed or still didn't process enough! OIY! Sometimes I just need to pretend PS doesn't exist and be happy with what I get! BUT... then I see others' work, and think mine just can't compare at all! We are definitely tough on ourselves, aren't we!!

I think that as someone gets better at this self criticism will evolve also. At first you think you have taken great pictures, then you start learnig all the technical stuff, composition, etc. And the more you practice the better you get and start distinguishing wich of your photos are more eye catching.
