Canon S2 IS – Canon S5 IS Versus an SLR

At the moment I have a Canon S2 IS and I am thinking about upgrading my camera equipment as I hope to get into Stock photography (selling your photos online).

I have been looking at the Canon S5 IS as a possible alternative I like he its features (especially the flip up & twist LCD panel) which has proved very useful.

My budget is limited and so I have to take in that into consideration but at the same time I don't want to go and take thousands of photographs and submit them to have them all rejected .

What I would like to find out - is the Canon S5 IS a good enough camera for that purpose (quality wise) OR
do I need to upgrade to some kind of SLR ? If so is there any makes that you would/could recommend to me (bearing in mind the features of the Canon S5 IS).

Thank you very much Craig

Well Craig, I'm in your exact position and what I've found out is that if your budget is around the $450, like my case, you should get de S5. Now, if you're willing to go for the $1000-1500 you should definetly take into consideration one of the EOS dSLR family from Canon, and go all the way with some cool acessories. But you can actually work wonders with an S5 and Photoshop. Now I've read a really cool article about "All-in-one's vr dSLR's" wich you might find interesting. Send me your email.
