Grainy pics

I recently purchased a Nikon 70-200mm F/2.8 G-AFS ED-IF VR lens. I seem to be getting grainy pictures, especially on people. What am I doing wrong? I would appreciatie any suggestions. Thanks.

We probably need a little more info and maybe you could post a couple you say are grainy. Are you shooting digital or film?

Thank you for responding. I am shooting digital. I am uploading a couple of shots. I am not even sure if "grainy" is the right description. But skin tones have dark, pixely looking areas.
