Shooting theater photos

I shoot the local community theater's publicity photos and have had a real problem with using a flash. I use a Canon D5 with a Promaster 7500 DX TTL flash. I used to get an orange glow which the former theater photographer told me was due to the theaters use of different temperature lighting. I went out to and bought an 80a filter to compensate and it has helped a little. I have just started shooting in RAW but find it limiting as to the number of shots I can actually take. Sometimes the flash will fire and the shutter will stay open longer. And sometimes the flash just isn't enough. I have had the lighting guy turn on all the lights to help but it takes away from the way the scene is set to run. Does anyone have any experience with shooting theater productions? Thanks.....Kevin
