Another Teleconverter question

I have a canon 30D & 20D and am interested in a Kenko 1.4x teleconverter. It will be used on a Canon 70-200 f/2.8L lens.

I understand the loss of aperture and increased problems with autofocus. But I have a couple specific questions that I haven't yet found an answer to. In addition, my plan for using this converter is mainly to get better reach photographing airplanes at airshows (lots of available light/outdoors in the middle of the day).

1.) with the 1.6 crop factor of the cameras' sensors, will this 1.4x converter actually make the lens a 448mm lens (200 x 1.6 = 320 x 1.4 = 448)?

2.) will adding the converter make autofocusing too hard for fast moving objects such as airplanes?

Thanks for your help.

I would spend a little bit more and buy the Canon 1.4X....I used the 70-200 2.8L and IS to shoot AMA, MotoGP & Nascar with no problem. Just gotta pan with the vehicle/plane and you'll have no problem.....just buy the Canon version.
oh yeah have some photos from AMA you can see in my port.

  Oliver,
Thanks for the info. I've actually been to your gallery before by chance and I remember thinking how stunning those shots were, especially the motorcycle shots.

Were those taken with a canon teleconverter on the 70-200 lens?

Again, what great photos!

Yep! I was shooting the AMA for the Infineon Raceway and getting my hair ready and accidently packed only my 70-200 2.8L (non IS) with 1.4X. So I get to the track (hair looking awesome) but the WRONG lens. It still worked GREAT and all the Umbrella Girls appreciated both the photos and hair....
