Using an older flash as slave unit OKay guys, another newbee here. I just recently read an entry that almost answered my question, but not quite. I am just now going digital, and want to do more with the camera than I have ever done in the past. I've done weddings for people I know... never considered myself anywhere near being a professional. But I'm really wanting to give it shot and learn what I can to do more. Previous camera - N80 with Sunpack Achiever 260AF dedicated autofocus flash. I have never worked with (studio) lighting so this is my major issue. Just to practice - bought 10.5 clamp lights and 500 watt photoflood(?) bulbs (I think I got that right.) and Yes, they are hot.. but I want to CHEAPLY practice with what the light can and will do... Can I still utilize this Sunpak Flash from my N80? use it as a slave unit or something? In the previous post from May, Debby had mentioned something about needing an SC-15 cable? I have and SC-17 that I connect my flash to my bracket (technology terms are really getting to me...) hopefully you know what I'm talking about... (it allows me to use my flash on top even when turn the camera vertical... please forgive my non-use of technical terms... any advise or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you can use them together but the color temperature is different for flash and most hot lights.

honestly, If can utilize this flash, I can do with most of the hot lights.. but how would I get the flash to work as a slave? what accessory do I need to get it to work? Thanks

Get a long sync cord or a remote that can be infra red or radio wave. The SC-17 cable sounds like a cable that allows the flash to keep working as dedicated while off of the hotshoe. But to get an extension sync cord like one from Paramount, 15ft, you'll loose the dedication. But with hot lights you just need to connect a sync cord to the flash and match the aperture with the flash and the shutter speed to the hot lights.
