Photography Question

Marta J. Baldwin

downloading pics to BP from MAC

I'm visiting my mom and she has a Mac. I've downloaded my pics onto IPhoto and I figured out how to edit but when I use the image uploader on BP, I can't open the pics in IPhoto so I can select one. It just inserts the file info for the whole library into the slot on the BP image uploader. Does anyone know how to do it?

I don't use the mass image uploader for either Mac or Windows. I use the single image uploader, as it is faster and more reliable for me. What you need to do is browse for the image location on your disk. It would be a good idea to resize the image (to 480 px on the short end) and then save the resized picture to the desktop (leaving the original untouched). I really dislike iPhoto, because it organizes the pictures for iPhoto's viewing only without regard for organization on the actual Pictures folder, and because it is too easy to write over the original file. (I personally use Picasa for organization and Helicon Filter for editing via Parallels.) Maybe you should download the GIMP onto the
Mac and use that for editing, but you probably actually can use iPhoto to downsize and save a file to the desktop. Browse for the desktop from BetterPhoto and upload. Then you can delete the small file.

Thank you for your response Ariel. I almost forgot about the size. I did try to download Picasa2 but haven't been sucessful at that either. Any suggestions?

Picasa2 only works on Windows and Linux.

Perhaps you are wondering how I use Picasa? I use it via Parallels. If you have a Windows installation CD (like Windows XP), you can install a "virtual" windows on the mac and use it with its programs. VirtualBox is a free alternative to Parallels, but you still need to own a Windows CD.
