Photography Question

copyrighting photos

I looked into the US visual copyright website, as suggested by members here. I am unsure what they are sking for. They require $45 and a copy of the pic. Curious if anyone knows if the fee is $45 for each picture. I tried contacting them but havent received an answer.
Also saw digimarc link provided by PhotoShop. Does anyone have any experience using digimarc to protect their photos?
Thx as always,
Joe

  Joseph,

They will allow you to register a group. I think it allows up to 30 per group; but, I'm not absolutely sure. Mark F. or possibly someone else will know for sure.

For $45, you may submit your photos in batches, As I recall, it's now up 40 or 45 maximum at once. Make sure your registration is timely in order to preserve your rights to litigate any infringement AND ESPECIALLY read and heed the simple submission instructions accompanying form V.A. (visual arts) at copyright.gov.
Take it light.
Mark

  Joseph,

I don't think Digimarc is a "Copyright" protection device per se. Check out their website www.digimarc.com and navigate to "digital watermarking." It is vague; but, I think you'll get the idea.

I think it is more of a way to "mark" your photos as your own and possibly track their usage, if not authorized. I could be completely wrong; but, from their site and my photo editing software, that is what I understand it as being.

The following is from the help section of Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI about Digimarc:

A digital watermark is a permanent proof of authenticity for an image. While a computer can detect it, it is invisible to the viewer. A watermark contains information about the creator, the copyright, and the image. When a viewer chooses to see this information, the program opens a dialog box that contains a link to the Digimarc web page.
