I believe it has to do with the color space that is being used. I think by default Lightroom uses the new ProPhoto RGB color space. You can check by looking at Lightroom's preferences under the External Editors tab. There is plenty of stuff out on the internet that suggests that Lightroom has some problems when printing. Even after chaning the color space to sRGB I have better results, but still a problem. At least what I upload to this site has better colors once choosing sRGB. I will be anxious also for the 'correct' way to print from Lightroom.

You have to make sure your monitor is properly calibrated. If it has a color cast or is too bright, your prints will have an opposite color cast and be too dark.

What about it being consistantly coloured? Well you did say parts of the image. If it's making the first print very off, or even the first part that comes out the printer very off and the rest of it looks like it's trying to get better, you might need to make test prints to get the ink flowing. If the printer sits for a while, it can take a couple of tries before the ink flows properly. It's good to print something like multi colored squares on regular paper if you haven't used your printer for a few days to keep the ink flowing well. Try that before you get into calibrating.
