Avoiding underexposed pictures

I recently received a Nikon D200 and I am having trouble finding the right settings for indoor shots. Almost all of my indoor images are underexposed. Would anyone have suggestions on how to correct this problem?

Higher ISO, Wider aperture, use flash, slower shutter, or any of the above.

Thanks for your response Ariel. I'm not sure where to begin. I am becoming very frustrated because I've tried different things and nothing seems to be working. I got a digital flash which I thought would solve my problems but it really didn't. I guess I'm not doing something with it that I should be.

By digital flash, do you mean simply editing the picture on the computer to make it brighter?

Anyway, read your camera's user guide. It will tell you how to change the settings for your specific camera. Using the camera's flash, opening the aperture more (lower f/number), etc., will make the pictures brighter.

Note: If you have the camera set to automatically under-expose pictures by a stop or two, it will produce under-exposed shots unless you are in full manual mode. Read your camera's manual to make sure you didn't set the camera to have underexposed shots.
