Photoshop

Does anyone know which is easiest to learn of the photoshop applications? I have Photoshop CS and am struggling to learn on my own. I have heard that Coral Paint Shop Pro is easier? Any suggestions? HELP...

Go to Wikipedia, and look at the different articles for PSP and Photoshop. You will see how the screenshots compare, and you will get an idea of the differences. Photoshop has some more features than PSP or pretty much any other application, but I couldn't say if one is easier to learn than the other. I bought Digital Photography and Photoshop CS2 for Dummies, and it is really great. You can look at the Wikipedia article "Comparison of raster graphics editors" and you will find many. I recommend Helicon Filter. I find it much easier to learn than Photoshop.

There are other similar programs to photoshop which don't cost much, you know. pl32 free trial, GIMP, GIMP-shop, see the list at Wikipedia.

Picasa is a super easy to learn program, but the editing capabilities are pretty limited.

  "handtint"?

I know that in Helicon Filter, and probably a few others, you can brush in tinted colors, if that is what you mean.

  Hello Kelly,

Any photo editing program requires practice.
Reading online "ow to do this" and "how to that" will leave gaps in your learning and understanding.

I'd suggest a book. Learn it from the ground up. You can also have the book open as you walk thru each excercise.

Decide what YOU want the program to do for you. Too many times, people new to editing with powerful, feature rich programs; are overwhelmed. These programs are ENDLESS in their capabilities and possibilities; often times so much so that we lose sight of our photography.

Adobe PS is not a difficult program to use if you can read..It is however quite steep in the learning curve dept and very time consuming for the first few months of learning.

  Hi Kelly,
You've come to the right place! BetterPhoto has a great line of digital-darkroom courses - all taught by working professionals who have published books and/or magazine articles on Photoshop. Thus, at BetterPhoto, you'll get tips and insights to help you take full advantage of what the awesome Photoshop program has to offer!

These classes are fully interactive and 100% online. You'll get weekly lessons and assignments, and critiques from a pro. These are "virtual classrooms", too, so there's interaction and discussions among students, as well as with the instructor.

A good class to begin with is Photoshop 101: The Photoshop Essentials Primer. It starts this Wed., May 2nd.

Also, starting this Wednesday: a brand-new class: Lightroom - A Comprehensive Look.
After that, we have many other excellent options. Check out our full schedule of Photoshop courses:

Hope this helps, Kelly!
Kerry
