wide angle lens

Might be stupid question but new to photography. Went I attach my wide angle lens to my canon 710is do you use the zoom lens or do you just attach the lens and shot. I hit the WA lens when I zooms and got a lens error.

Are you using Canon's adapter (LA-DC58G)? If you're using one made by someone else, it may not be long enough. The Canon adapter is used with both the wide angle converter (with lens as its shortest) and the teleconverter with the lens at its longest.

Even if you are using a wide converter other than Canon's WC-DC58N, you should be setting the camera for the WC-DC58N (see p. 113 of the A710's manual). This setting may (or may not) limit the zoom lens range to avoid hitting the converter.

Thank you. I am using the la-dc58g. I am using the sakar lens. It is fine with the tele lens. I was for some reason wanting to zoom with the wide lens. Thanks for your help.
