Speedlite Question

I recently purchased a Canon 580EX Speedlite. I have been taking some photo's inside and come out with nice results when I shoot when taking landscape style pictures and bounce the light off the cieling. When I turn my camera (using a tripod)vertically to take portrait style pictures, I have a hard time with my flash. The pictures are never perfectly exposed, I find myself adjusting the flash numerous times just to get enough light. It either comes out too dark or with too much flash. Any suggestions?

Try a stroboframe, this allows you to
change the camera from horizontal to vertical with out the flash moving from center frame.
I do hope this helps,
debby

Thanks Debby. Did you ever use one? I have been taking pictures inside using my studio lights. I purchased the speedlite because I would like to start taking photo's at people's home and don't want to carry the large studio lights. Nevermind that fact that most people don't have the room to set up the lights correctly. Do you know if this is what most photographers do when they take pictures at peoples homes?

  Hi Debbie,

I haven't had a chance to respond back. Thanks for the tips. Regarding "home shot's" what exactly is a mono lite? Here is the studio equipment that I have: http://www.alienbees.com/digi.html. How do you avoid backdrops being wrinkled when you take them to people's homes? i'm always using the steamer at home! But I certainly can't do this everywhere. In addition, how do you set up your lights? I know that the backdrop lights has to be 4ft from the drop and the subject 6ft from the drop. How do you do all this when you don't have all that space.....HELP.......:0

  Rosie,

*mono lite?
A Mono Light is a light head that can work as a kit or as a sole unit having it's own power scoure.

*How do you avoid backdrops being wrinkled when you take them to people's homes?
Well they actually do make travel size steamers.
But I do not fold mine, but rather roll them up. This seams to help ALOT!

*how do you set up your lights?
Well there are seveal ways, but sometimes space just indecates that you turn them down and/or add different types of diffusion.

I do hope this helps,
Debby
