tamron 70-300mm lens for nikon d80

...i was trying out a tamron 70-300mm lens to see if there was any glaring reason I shouldn't stay within my budget and purchase this lens instead of the Nikon brand one of the same. This was shot at 250mm without a tripod... any comments on the photo/purchase? I've got 10 days to return the lens if I'm not happy with it....I'll be shooting more in the next 5 days...

  hey cindy,
I have a tamron 70-300 1:4-5.6 LD tele macro(1:2) i've had for years.still works great and takes good photos.if you plan on a convertor later,1.4 or 2x,keep in mind you'll probably lose auto focus.
the photo?f16 or f22 would probably have put the banner in focus.but, maybe not being in focus, might have been your goal?
I was thinking that was you that wanted to learn manual?
good luck,sam

thanks sam... good news about the lens...your feedback mades me less scared about the "budget purchase". I'm taking next week to play with my new camera and will be posting my embarassments as well as my successes as I struggle to adapt to a really nice camera and digital at the same time.... the banner was left out of focus on purpose, as I currently can only "focus" on one thing at a time with the new camera without getting too confused. Have purchased the recommended book on exposures and will be conquering that mountain as well in the next month or so. Again, thanks for your feedback!!

  Hi nieghbor,
I have this lens as well, it is one that I recommend often.
Actualy I shoot most often with either it or my Nikon 120VR Lens.
I feel this lens is not only a good buy, but a smart one as well.
I however, though love Nelsons Shop, most often buy from Ebay.
and/or Cametauctions on Ebay.
Have a great time with your tests,
Debby

well cindy,i'm sure by now your lens is an updated version, even better.
might want to learn one thing at a time, one aspect, either shutter speed or aperture.one.
not a mountain.maybe a bit of unknown knowledge,more like a small hill.
now,and it's just a questiion,not a judgement,the on purpose.a bit of contradiction.the focus,hmmm.
not a big deal at all.but a young talent that wants to learn.
I suppose we'll see,sam
