Help me choose between D80 and D40x I own a D70, was thinking to upgrade to D80, but I just saw the coming D40x. The features that I most care right now is the shutter lag, and the low noise at high ISO. I have read that the D40x is better (slightly) than the D80 at high ISO. But my concern is the shutter lag. The three point focus is secondary for me because, I have always used the center to focus the eyes, Sync/flash 1/200 is okay for me. Something else, how fast could be the autofocus with my lenses (2.8 80-200mm and 3.5-5.6 24-120mm. I would appreciate your advice, thank you

Shutter lag should not be significantly different between these models. The greater concern is that the D40 and D40x will only autofocus with lenses that have their own internal AF motors: Nikon AF-S (Silent Wave), AF-I, and Sigma HSM. Your 80-200 f/2.8D ED AF will not autofocus with the D40/D40x. If your 24-120 is the current model 24-120 f/3.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR, then it'll be good with the D40/D40x. If it is the older model 24-120 f/3.5-5.6D IF AF then it will not autofocus.

Julio, if you own the D70 I'd go with the D80 or else you'll be buying all new cards too. The D40 uses SD cards.

Hi Julie, and something to consider is saving the couple hundred more for the D200: http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-D200-Digital-SLR-Camera-Body-Kit-USA-1yr-Warranty_W0QQitemZ160101392612QQcategoryZ43456QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I have the D70 and Fuji S2, and I really enjoy the D200. ** camaetauctions , is a dealer on Ebay that I have used quite a bit and they are dependable and very fast at shipping your order.

The D80 takes SD cards so you will have to buy new cards with whichever model you choose. I have a D80 and highly recommend it.

I just took my friend to one of our local camera stores where I get all my stuff discounted... He was debating between the D80 and D40x for his first camera. I went with him to save him a couple bucks and n=in return took a look at both cameras... The D40x is very small compared to the other Nikon cameras... The D80 is heavy and rugged, just by picking it up you know it could probably take a spill off a cliff and still be okay! haha. (disclaimer: do not test that theory) Anyways, I told my frient to get the D80 and took a look at the settings and everything when we got it home. At first glance, I thought that the D80 was a D200 missing many small but useful features. I dove in further and ended up finding most of what I thought wasn't there. All I had to do was access it differently. For example, the autofocus dials are still at the bottom corner of the lens mount, but you can just toggle between manual or autofoucs... I thought there was no single or continuous servo settings which would have been annoying for me... Instead, I found that you can choose what type of servo through holding a button and toggling the back command dial... Little stuff like that. It also doesn't have a bank to store up to 4 different camera settings. All you get it one.
