Fabric Colors looking True Hello! I just accepted a small job to take photos of fabrics for a gals website. I didn't think that would be too difficult. I have all these fabrics, and the true colors of the fabrics are not coming to life in my camera. Any ideas?? I messed around with a few settings, but nothing makes too big of a difference!! Any help is really appreciated!

Don't use flash. Try setting a custom white balance based on a white sheet of paper in the existing lighting. Maybe try to decrease the in-camera saturation a little. Shoot in raw if you can, and adjust on the computer in Camera RAW (photoshop), Helicon Filter, or other RAW processors, until it looks right. Make sure that you calibrated your monitor.

April, I am not the resident attorney here but I saw a Q&A regarding shooting fabrics a few months ago. The person wanting to know about photographing fabrics was told that even fabrics have a copyright and you can't take photos of them for your website without permission. Maybe Mark will show up and verify or correct me. In the meantime it's something to consider.

Loiks and awaaay! That may be trademark stuff. But I could see copyright if it displays unique, one of a kind, identifiable pattern and design to it. But trademark is still like copyright in that you're not free to use it. Like the red and white wave pattern to Coke. Even the word Coke is a trademark. Can't have it show up without Coca Cola company giving the go ahead.
