Photography Question

Is my lens faulty?

I have purchased a Canon 70-200 f2.8 L USM about 3 months ago and have noticed some dust particles in the inside of the lens on some of the moving glass elements. Is this normal or is there a fault with the sealing of the lens? Is it also true that this lens does not have weather proofing seals like the Image Stabilizer version of it?

How did you notice the dust particles? Are you sure it is inside the lenses and not on your camera's sensor itself?

Otherwise you may actually have an issue. Did you get it legit from a camera store or online site? Is is under warranty?

It is inside the lens as the dust particles move with the moving parts as I adjust the zoom ring. I do have a warranty.

That's not uncommon. A few specks can end up inside during the building of the lens, then get stuck to the glass later. Maybe static charge ends up drawing the dust speck to the glass. or if the barrel extends in an out, dust on the outside can possibly work it's way inside.
A build up of more and more dust would be something that points to a faulty lens.

Looks like it is warranty work for your lens then... Best of luck.
