Berard, I use the 18-200mm on my D80 for most situations and carry a 70-300mm for specific shooting. The 18-200 is compact enough to be convenient yet still offers a great enough zoom range to be most versatile. CD

  Thanks C.D.
I suspect that both the
Tamron 18-200mm and the newer 28-300mm are good lenses, but what if you presently had only the Nikon F/3.5-5.6, which of the above tamrons would you purchase and why?
It feels strange asking for free help,
again thanks for your time.

I assume you are referring to the Nikon 18-135 kit lens? I am not certain if you have already purchased this or are considering it. I opted to buy only the D80 body and then the Tamron 18-200. If you are just considering this kit and have not already purchased it you may want to consider not getting the kit lens at all but one of the Tamrons. The 18-300 will obviously give you the greatest flexability and if you already own the Nikon lens, the least amount of overlapping zoom. Depending on what you plan on shooting the 18-300 may cover all your needs.

I ordered not yet received the D80
with the Nikon 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Lens, in your reply you mentioned lens overlapping and flexability, on that note the just released: Tamron 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 XR DI ASP AF
has minimum overlap, and is flexable, do you agree? so I guess in the future when someone ask me whats the QUALITY of this new lens, you know the story. Thanks again
