Sizing Square Images for Contest

Hello all,
If a rectangular photo needs to be 500 X 750 pixels (or 480 on the short side for optimal sharpness) for the contest entry, then does a square image have to be only 500 X 500? Could it possibly be something like 650 X 650? 500 on all sides is so small, but sometimes a square image is the only thing that works.

The shortest side will always be downsized to 480 px. So you cannot size it to 600x600 or anything like that.

This is probably a technicality, but you can size the picture to whatever you like, prior to upload. As Ariel says, BP's process will then resize automatically to the 480 min constraint. Many people will tell you that it's better to resize to 480 prior to upload, and sharpen a little more than normal, to overcome some of BP's fuzziness on upload.
