Connecticut/NYC Photo Opp suggestions

Hey all,
Looking for ideas/suggestions on places, things, events, etc. to shoot in the Connecticut/NYC area. I live in Northwest CT and NYC. I'm new to photography and am taking my first Betterphoto class - Perfect Digital Exposure (with Jim Z.). I know that photo opps are limitless and one can just walk outside the door and start snapping pics but I would like people's ideas on specfic subjects and places to shoot in the area (Bronx Zoo, The Cloisters, CT covered bridges, lighthouses, etc. etc.). Anyone in the area have any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your responses.

Jeff

For a large covered bridge, try the Cornwall Bridge off of RT 7, There are also some very old buildings near by.I think it is near RT 45,( sorry I did'nt pay much attention to the road name when I was there but there are signs on RT 7 For a smaller bridge, stop in Bulls Head which is also off of RT 7, near Kent. Be sure to stope at Kent Falls State Park. For a smallcovered walking bridge in the woods go to Southford Falls State Park,RT 188 in Soutford part of Southbury, near the Oxford town line.
If you want to shoot an impressive structure, Check out the New Croton Dam (actually built in 1907)in the Cortlandt,Croton are of NY. About an hour from Southbury CT.
I have a couple of shots from it in my gallery and am looking forward to visiting it again.
I hope these suggestions give you some ideas
What town do you live in?

  Mike,
Definitley - thanks for the response and the ideas. I do know Cornwall Bridge. It's right next to my favorite pottery store - Cornwall Bridge Pottery. Been there several times and love it. Don't know the rest of the spots you mention so I will have to check them out. Took a peak at your gallery - nice work. Where did you find that Old Church - like the spooky, moody, overcast shot. If I'm not mistaken, your 'flower box' shot was taken at Topsmead, yes? I've been there a couple of times as well to shoot. I live in New Hartford so I'm pretty close to Litchfield Center and Topsmead. I venture up there from time to time to practice. Tell me a little about your workshops.

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff- Thanks for the comments on my work. The Old Church is on RT 173 in South Britain (Southbury). The Flower box is at Topsmead.I only found out about that park because I had to do some work in the house. CT has some nice places to shoot but you need to find them,or as in my case, stumble across them while at work. I will email you about the workshops.
