Photography Question

Greg Smith

Has anyone used PortraitProfessional?

Has anyone used PortraitProfessional advertised on this site? I've downloaded the free trial, but it won't allow me to process any of my own pictures, only the sample pictures included. I've e-mailed Anthropics Technology for info regarding this, but haven't received any response as yet. The software looks good, amlost too good to be true. I was wondring if it is legit or not.

Greg, I was curious after reading your post so I also downloaded the free demo too. I messed around with it a little last night. You are right, it is really cool. I was able to use it on one of my own photos, however I wasn't working on a copy so I didn't try to save it. I am curious to know if you got a response to your email. It seems that the pictures are somehow processed via the internet? I am considering purchasing this at $39.99 it is not a huge risk. I wonder how you would touch up a photograph with two or more in the picture? Maybe do one head, save it, and then open again and do another? Anyway, it was really fast and did an amazing job.

Thanks for your response, Linda. You got further than I did then. Every time I tried to open one of my own images, I got some obscure error message and then the software crashed. What OS are you running? I'll mail them again today. If I don't receive a reply this time, I will contact Antropics telephonically. The software really does look impressive, but here in deep dark Africa, our Internet connections are really archaic, so I need to know if the full version processes the images locally on the client machine, or if they too are uploaded for processing. If you do purchase it, please let me know what you think of it. Unfortunately for me, with the exchange rate, $39.99 ends up being quite a lot of money to waste if it doesn't work.

Greg, I am using Windows XP home edition. I did purchase the software last night, and it is amazing. It doesn't appear that the images are processed on my computer, they are uploaded and that takes less than 30 seconds. I am so far impressed. I did read some of the forum questions on their website and slow response to email and the error message you were getting are addressed there. Good luck, I hope you get it to work. I am going to have to have my daughter take a picture of me this time, then use this software to take off ten years!! Ha Ha. Have a great day.

Thanks for getting back to me again Linda. You have been a tremendous help. I tried the forum link before I mailed them, but it was obviously down at the time. It is up now and it does indeed answer my question re the error message. If you don't mind, i'd love to see a before & after picture (other than the ones on their site) to see what the software can do.

Sure, I will be glad to send you my before and after. I have not had these printed yet, so I am not sure how they would end up looking. I will have to do that tonight, I am at work today. Thanks Greg. By the way, where in Africa are you? My husband and I are planning a trip next June or July but haven't decided yet where we are going.

That will be greatly appreciated, Linda. I did manage to process some of my own pictures last night (thanks to you pointing me to the forums). The software certainly speeds things up! It doesn't seem to work too well on pictures that aren't taken straight on, with the model looking square into the camera, though.
I'm in Johannesburg, South Africa - the crime capital of the world. Can you believe it, I have (had) photo's of my son on my desk here at work and last night someone stole the frames. I'm not having a good morning... No, it really isn't that bad here. The weather is great, the geography is perfect and the wildlife (although there's not really any wild left - it is all in closed-off reserves) is absolutely amazing!

if they won't let you print a sample, then there is something to hide. There is alot of junk out there and the people that find the good stuff won't share so they stay on top, make sense.

I wasn't able to upload my pics last night. I did notice that they look better straight on. I meant I haven't had any printed, I didn't mean I wasn't able to print them. I am anxious to see how they look printed. $39.95 is a reasonable price here, but if the exchange rate makes it much higher there I see why you would hesitate. Your frames were stolen?? Unbelievable! I am so sorry to hear that.

Hey, Linda. The "if they won't let you print a sample" post wasn't me. I see my mini-pic is displayed though - don't know what happened there...
And so, what's your verdict on the software? I did notice it doesn't transfer the entire image through the web, probably just the metadata and some command parameters. So it is lookin more & more appealing.

I am happy with it, but I still haven't had anything printed. I hope to do that this week. One thing I noticed, some of the faces are so "airbrushed" they look plastic. They have sliders for different areas of the face, I would like to try decreasing some of the effect and in some cases only whiten the eyes and teeth. All in all I am glad I purchased it. Good luck.

Thanks for all your help & info, Linda. I've eventually decided to buy it. I think they should give you commission ;-)

I did try using less of the effect. You have to go through the whole process, which only takes a few minutes. Then after the photo is processed you have the option of using the sliders to lessen the effect. I did that on a photo and was able to whiten just the eyes and teeth and do a tiny bit of sculpting by adjusting the sliders. I hope you enjoy this.

I have had Protrait Professional for over a year. I like the effect it gives us but I am not sure I like the change to the face from the orginal. It does look pretty tho. Most of my customers like the orginal and I use an action called
Softar From Bootcamp action. www.nobsphotosuccess.com for the soften look.

I bought portrait professional and I really like it. I had it for about four or five months.

I can take an older person's face and make it younger. Clean up wrinkles or dark circles under the eyes. You can make a neck longer. You adjust the shape of the face. You can lighten or darken hair. There so much you can do with it.

It really fun to use.

Have been using Portrait Professional for a while now at the recommendation of BP instructor, Jim Zuckerman. This program is a huge timesave and women I have photographed really love the results.
