What kind of white backdrop for studio?

Hi all!!! Happy New Year!! I would like to buy a white backdrop to use for a more high key look. I know they come in muslin. They also come in a white velvet that is supposed to absorb the light. Does anyone have an opinion about which is better and why? I will be using the backdrop indoors with my Alien Bee. Also, are there any other things that I should be aware of when shooting against a white background?

Free tip:
if you get a light-grey background you have a whole range of pastel tinted backgrounds at your disposal simply by illuminating it with colored gels over your background (flash)lights.
