polarizing filter

Does anyone have an opinion when it comes to polarizing filters? I have a Digital Rebel XT EOS 350. Where to find a good deal? Ballpark price?

Thanks!
Beth

There are 2 types of polarizer filter - Circular and Linear. They look the same and are used the same way, but there is a technical difference such that linear polarizers will confound the autofocus and metering systems of SLRs. Be sure to get a Circular Polarizer.

Price depends on size and quality. Your lens will have the filter diameter printed on it, usually on or near the front with a Ø symbol (eg. "Ø58mm"). Better (more expensive) filters will have brass rather than aluminum rings, have multicoated glass to reduce flare/reflections, and sealed edges (eg. B+W "Kaesemann"). Tiffen is an decent economical brand, but is uncoated. Ok if you use a lens hood. Hoya is the most popular brand offering multicoated polarizers, while B+W and Heliopan are the high end. For 58mm size, prices begin at about $30 for uncoated, are about $75-80 for decent multicoated, and over $100 for a B+W Kaesemann polarizer.

You could also type "polarizer" in the search box and hit enter...
