Photography Question

Monitor calibaration AGAIN.

So I have calibrated with the Monaco optix XR and prints from WHCC are still coming back dark. Even if I adjust my brightness down to get it to look as dark as the print it doesn't look the same when I compare my print to what's on the monitor.
Any suggestions, what do I do to get a better match and why does this continue to be such a struggle for me? The manual for this Optix is so basic and offers me no help.

  Hello Kristi,

What software are you using?

In a nutshell, printers, monitors and editing software work within defined numerical limits; these are called ICC profiles. In other words, a printer needs to know what numerical value=red, blue, green and everything else in between.

Most software packages allow you to either specify a ICC profile, or use none at all.

Most people turn off the ICC profile and allow the printer to figure it out, which it (usually) does sucessfully.

If you are shooting and printing with the Adobe 1998 RGB gamut, your printer needs to know these values.

Try turning off the ICC profile in your editing software and use sRGB prior to printing.

Lemme' know,

Pete

I do not print myself. I use WHCC
My files are saved as Adobe 1998 in photoshop. When I soft proof with the labs profiles it looks pretty good but then they still come back dark from the lab.??????

  Ok,
Given that information, I'd say it's a lab problem. Instruct them to use the proof as a guide print.

Pete

Yes, it is lab problem. Like the printers, they also have gamma value which I suspect is set to average or low to accommodate all kinds of exposures (over exposure is more common than under!).
