Photography Question

Best noise reduction software

What's the best noise reduction software and why do you think it's better than the others?

I know this has been covered before in various threads, but I thought I'd throw it out there again to see if anything new has popped up in the noise reduction software arena before I decide which one to buy.

  I use Helicon Filter. It's free. :)

Part of the program is noise reduction, which works pretty well.

I've tried several. Neat Image and Noiseware are the two that I've used most. Neat Image seems to me to do a little bit better job if there's a decent area to sample. If the photo is busy and doesn't have a large enough area (such as sky) to sample it practically destroys the sky. Noiseware works best with photos that doesn't have much of an area to sample. If I could afford them both I'd buy them both. I settled on Noiseware.

I have the same ones Sharon has. I see very little difference. One is a little faster than the other, but not enough to recommend it over the other one. They both work pretty well on many shots.

Thank you, Ariel, Sharon and Carolyn! Do any of you know how well the noise reduction in PSCS2 compares to these standalone products?

I tried the trial version of PSCS2 and didn't like it as well. As I recall I only tried it on one or two photos so I'm not sure my opinion counts for anything on that score.

I use Noiseware plug in for CS2. It works very well, I did not try any other software. But I know it is much better then the one included in CS2.

I have both Neat Image and Noise Ninja. The difference are subtle, but I have liked the results with Neat Image. Noise Ninja I find at times almost makes the image look like a Buzz filter was applied.
