One Year Ago Today... Just thought I'd share in my anniversary; I'm officially 1 year old, in BP years, today! I found the site last year, having just purchased my first-ever camera; I'd bought Jim's "BetterPhoto Guide" that same weekend, to try and quickly learn some basics in preparation for a trip to Biltmore Estate. (I found the book very helpful for a newbie! Only near the end of it did I realize there was a website connected with the author.) I've found the site to be full of very friendly, helpful, and of course, inspiring and talented members! I've enjoyed making several online friendships with other photographers here, as well as meeting a few in person. And I believe my photography has improved over this past year as well. (Interestingly, I don't think I have a single photo displayed now, from my Biltmore trip; and I thought they were so good, back then! ;) I probably owe the improvements as much to the discussion threads, information, conversations & great images I see here, as to the year of practice I've now accumulated on my camera. So anyway, thanks to the BP community for making my first year fly by, and for making BP such a great place to be!

Sipho... don't hold back... "People's camera"?! Maybe Canon should call the 400XTi that, instead---get rid of that Rebel tag! Margie, I'm still hesitating, obviously, and Sipho's not helping me any! (grin!) I'm thinking early next year now, when we get our raises/reviews/bonuses at work! Nobi, I'm SO ready for some sushi... I think Friday night, in fact, it will be on the menu... Happy (early) anniversary to you Carolyn; I'd say you can claim veteran BP status! And a belated happy anniversary to you, Ariel, from not too long ago!

Congrats on one year, Chris! I can not recall how long I've been visiting BP. I can look up when I joined, but I was visiting the site for months prior just to look at all the photos. It took me a while to get the guts to actually submit a photo into the contest. I didn't think I'd win anything, and thought entering would be a waste of time so I just enjoyed the photography located here.

Tammy, if I was really good with dates, I'd have remembered to wish you a happy anniversary last week! (So, happy belated anniversary!) And thanks for all the chats, emails and tips over the year! And Sharon... Your post here should be required reading for newbies starting out... I can't quite imagine, with your images (& all that gold and silver!) that you'd have ever needed the "guts" to join & enter the contest! You've got such a terrific gallery, you clearly took to photography right away!

Thanks for saying so, Mike. I've definitely enjoyed building my online gallery, and seeing (gradual!) improvement over the past year. Here's hoping for another year of improvement, pro lens or not.
