Photography Question

What is the difference in background materials?

I am wondering if anyone can offer advice about choosing
backgrounds/backdrops.........
I see that there are cotton muslin and poly-canvas......
Which would you recommend? And why? What are the pros and cons you may have noticed about both or either one? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I have a few muslin backdrops and white they may look good in some situations, usually being mottled/wrinkled and all, I prefer using paper backdrops. Of course, most of the people here at betterphoto.com don't take the same kind of pictures I do when I use backgrounds. Most people go for flowery or traditional backgrounds for their babies and such. I like more solid colors. This is why I use the paper backdrops. It's decently easy to use as long as you're somewhat gentle though it does take up a little bit of room to store it. Prices are usually around $40 for a large roll.

I'm not sure about the poly-canvas that you mention but I believe it's probably somewhat expensive and heavy. Not necesarily a bad thing.

Anyway, as I was saying I often have wrinkles that I don't like in my muslin and it's pretty near impossible to get them out. It's also a little thing so you have to make sure to have a uniform wall behind the backdrop.
