I looked at your gallery and I see a woman in a wedding dress and a child. The wedding dress pics where she's laying down looks pretty good in terms of color balance but as you noted, the dress is too white. I know from my black and white darkroom experience you can usually get detail from something that white but I'm not sure if you'd be able to get detail back from a color negative like that by even going to a professional lab without risking some color errors. The other thing is that the color of the flash on the camera and the household lights is different. Hard to explain but basically the flash is bright white, almost blue like a star in the sky, and indoor light is often yellowish. You can see it most easily in a pure white room during the daytime with outside light coming in and then comparing that to the same room at night lit by normal light bulbs. It's not usually good to mix the lighting like that unless you have a specific goal. Something that I might recommend is trying to shoot during the day and use natural light. I recently bought a whole sheet of insulation board, 1/2" thick, with a matte silver on one side and blue on the other. I painted the blue side white so it reflected light. If you get somebody to help out you can even cover one side of this panel with mylar or something like a shiny space blanket. Then you could have somebody hold this mirror-like surface outside or near the window directing light inside, then use the white side of another panel to diffuse the light and use that as your light. It really works well but it's kind of tricky when you start.

Other than that, I don't want to drag this on longer than I already have but if you want to email me I could share what I used before I got my studio lights. You can contact me through my gallery if you would like. I hope this helps though!

Andrew
