Photography Question

International Winners

I'm not sure if there has been a topic on this previously, but why can't Better Photo pay for the shipping of international winner prizes?

It seems us international people are at quite a disadvantage, and winning ends up costing you $20 or so in order to collect the prize.

Now I would understand if BP had limited ways of raising money, but I would be seriously doubting it would make a huge dent in profits to send out some prizes every now and then to international winners. At the most you are going to have a few a month.

I am really proud to have won last month and I think the site and contest is great, but it seems a bit harsh to me saying "well done, you've won, now pay for the shipping".

This irritates me, too, Natalie. It might be the sponsor's doing, not BP's, but maybe they could offer us non-Americans a gift certificate for the product in question or some substitute online goodie?

I live in the US but have to agree that international winners should not have to pay shipping to get the prize.
But,if I lived elsewhere in the world, I would still like to have to decide as to wether I want to pay it, At least then I would have "Gold" by one of my images. Oh well, I'll have to keep shooting to get it. :)

I just double checked what the prizes are for the Grand, the first and the second.
And only the first prize (Tarmac compact sling pack) is the only item that will have to be shipped. The other prizes are new or extending Deluxe web site and premium gallery, and or a Summit Pass. These require only the online registration or paper work to claim. I would think that BP ought to add an alternative prize that is similar to others (that do not require Shipping and Handling expense) to the Tarmac Sling Pack for the First prize winner. If an international winner select the optinal item, it would simplified the claiming the prize.

How about it BP??? :)

Hey, Nobi, Firefox has a spell checker, too.

Anyway, you have to understand that BetterPhoto would have to pay like an extra $15 dollars to send something overseas as opposed to just within the US, and they don't want to pay more depending on where you live.

Still, I think it would be right to maybe split the price, or, better yet like the others suggested, offer a non-shipping thing for 1st place winners.

  Hi Ariel,

You must have misunderstood what I wrote. It oftens happens for English is not my native language.

I certainly know the shipping & handling cost are a lot more for overseas. I mail things to overseas quite often.

What I was suggesting is:
If BP offers an alternative prize that is simlar to the other prizes (that does not require S&H), it would simplify to claim the prize. As I mentioned, the first prize (Tarmac Sling Pack) is the only item among all the prizes that need so be physically shipped. All others can be claimed online... :)
