How to shoot family photo with horse and pets

Hello Better Photo Team
In a few weeks, I've been asked to shoot an outdoor family photo that includes - 4 people (two kids), 4 horses, and 2 dogs. Wonder if you have any suggestions for me. One - how to place everyone (on the horses, off the horses, etc. ?). Two - how best to set my Canon 30D w/28x135 IS USM lens to get everyone in focus. I do have and intend to use a tripod but I have no off camera lighting sources. ANY help/suggestions much appreciated.

Jagadeesh Andrew Owens   Does the family wrangle? Are the dogs herders and the family herders also? If so, getting them in action would be an AMAZING unconventional family portrait! Otherwise, I can't help ya.
