HELP!!! Who to buy mats from?

I'm looking for a place, online or a chain store, where I can buy standard size mats, in many different colors, where there is a single opening with a solid back hinged to the front so the picture can be safely and easily mounted and mailed to clients. Also, hopefully this place isn't super expensive?

(Sorry, I didn't see an applicable category for this question.)

Thank you all in advance for your help!

Hey Ari: Check this out at Light Impressions:

I think this is what you're looking for although LI isn't a chain store, it's an outfit specializing in higher end archival mounting and storage supplies.

Taker light. ;>)

Thanks, Mark. I looked at Light Impressions in the past, but most of the mats I was able to find there seemed very expensive. Now, for the link you gave me, $6 a mat isn't expensive. So these mats are for an 8x10 image in an 11x14 frame, already hinged? Just wondering: when you order one of these mats, you choose one color and get five mats of that color, and if you want two colors you need to get 10 mats?

Also, do they sell these kinds of mats in other sizes, too?

Thanks a bunch!

You know, I've never ordered hinged mats. But call their 800# and ask them. Go to their main website page, search under "hinged mats". It's probably a package of 5 but I honestly dunno. Also, check B&H and see what they're offering along these lines. Might be less. Again, I dunno.

  1. You can buy mat board 32X40 at chain stores like Pearl Art, AC Moore, etc. Then, with a Stanley knife, you can cut to the size you want.

2. If you want to use a window format, you'll need a mat cutter. Alto and Logan come to mind; you canspend as little as $125.00.

3. If you don't want to cut the window, you can use spray adhesive, available from any Arts and Crafts store and larger phpto shops. Note, you can use a heat press with inkjet prints.

4. You can buy hinged mats in a variety of sizes [but no colors,] at AC Moore, Michaels, Pearl, etc. You can also get them from Porters Camera.
