Cameras I am taking a photography class and I was wondering what type of Camera should I invest ir. I am looking for one that will take good quality photos but an inexpensive one. What do you suggest?

It would be best to ask the instructor directly. But generally, whether digital or film, you'll need a camera that allows the shutter speed and lens aperture to be set manually. Virtually all SLR cameras (Single Lens Reflex with interchangeable lenses) are suitable, but many compact point & shoots may also qualify.

Hello Keely, I would first suggest you ask yourself some questions. 1) Do I want film or digital? Many shoot both. 2) Do I intend to stay with photography? 3) What do I primarily want to shoot? If you are now in the learning stage, a used 35mm film SLR w/ lens can be purchased pretty cheap these days. You will find in time, there is not a single camera or lens that can do it all. Hi Keeley, I'm new at photography and recently started the New York Institute of Photography program. This is their recommendation: Once you decide film or digital, chose a camera that will allow you to have creative control. In other words, a camera that you can control aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Chose a camera for your needs now and not one you think you will grow into. The reason being, because by the time you grow into the camera, technology wil have changed and you will be able to get a better quality camera at a lower price. I took their recommendation and purchased a Canon Powershot A620. An excellent beginner camera at a good price. Hope that helps.

It you are looking at a lower cost SLR digital camera. Check out the Canon Rebel. Everyone who has them loves them. If you are willing to go over the $1000 price look at the Canon 20 D. I have a 20D so of course I love it. But I have found that if you don't have a good lens it doesn't matter if you have a good camera. Put a little extra money into the lens. Depending on what you want to shoot. That is how you need to decide what lens you want. I use a Canon 50mm EF 1:1.4.
