Print Profile

I am using an Epson 2400 printer and Ilford Smooth Pearl paper. When using the semi-gloss profile listed in the printer software the printed photo matches the photo on the monitor in color and brightness. When I use the Ilford Smooth Pearl profile the printed image is darker than the monitor image. The monitor has been calibrated with Spyder 2. Is there any reason that I should use the Ilford profile and adjust the monitor to match the printed image? The Ilford profile image appeared to be somewhat sharper, but that may be just an illusion because it was darker.

If you are using Photoshop, somewhere in there, I think in Print Properties, there is a button to click that says, "Use Monitor Profile". What might be happening is you are using your printer profile, so when you change the paper type, it changes the print to the printer profile. Try that and see if that fixes your problem. It took me a long time to learn that one. Printing to an Epson is really cool once you get it set up, but there is a ton of stuff to know about color before you're ready to go.
