Hi Estella, you will have to take some comments with a grain of salt. Some people use a little too much sarcasm when answering questions. lol. Anyways, as for books, I would suggest to you to go to a great bookstore near you and just spend a couple of hours looking thru the different books. Once you find a couple, purchase them and read them a couple times, try things they suggest, and see what works for you. Some can have real good tips. As for the different settings, unfortunately, no there's no real setting that can be automatic for all different lighting situations. This is wear you would have to read the manual of your camera to see how everything works, and then start shooting different situations with different settings (also learning how to meter correctly) will help. Basically just shoot shoot shoot, because you will learn a lot by trial and error. If you are interested in photography, but don't really know yet how to work your camera, the next time you go to a friend or family's wedding, even just as a guest, take as many pics as you can without getting in the pro's way, and see how you make out. Then you'll see what areas you need to work in and things like that. Good luck, do as much research as you can and practice makes perfect! Hope this helps!! Good luck!

Estella, I see you just joined this site two days ago- and I am SO sorry that the first response you received was such a rude one. Most people on this site are actually very helpful!

Have a good one!

Hi Estella, Teresa gave some good advice and I would have to agree. You learn by your mistakes Lord know I have. Just shoot lots of pictures and experiment with your camera. You'll get the hang of it.

Hi Estella, I took a course here on betterphoto to learn what my camera could do and how to do it. Best thing I ever spent money on, besides the camera that is. Welcome to betterphoto.
