Photography Question

Sepia or B&W?

Ive been taking pictures for years and I know effects are done on a personal preferance basis, but I was wondering if anyone out there has a unique way of decideing on using sepia or B&W. I have a few picture that I think would stand up more with one of these effects just cant put my finger on which one.

Hi Katie, I usually try both b/w and sepia before I make my final decision. Sometimes one that you think will look great in B/W ends up looking better in sepia. I have a guide I use - but not always, depends on the pic in the end. I do more of my candid shots b/w and a lot of children and nature shots sepia. For instance, when I shoot weddings (for fun) most of the candid ones are always b/w - when I shoot my kids outside or dress them up like in a newsboy hat- it is sepia. NOT always, but as a general guide! Feel free to e-mail me with your gallery if you ever need an opinion on B/W or Sepia, I'm not a pro, but I do like to help if at all possible! Have a good one!

PS Estella --thanks for the tip, I am going to go to that site right now and check it out.
