Photography Question

Taking really close pictures

I have a Kodak Dx7590 camera and am interested in taking some really close pictures, but I can't seem to get as close as I would like. Is there a setting I can change for this, or do I need to purchase a specific lens? All advise welcome!

  Dear Crystal,
As is, your camera focuses down to 4 ¾ inches in Macro mode. Not close enough?
You can probably mount a close-up supplemental lens. This is a magnifying lens that one attaches directly to the camera lens.

To do good work you need a good quality close-up lens. Good ones are somewhat expensive, but not out-of-reach.

These lenses come in powers marked + 1 thru 10. The larger the number the more power and the closer you can get with your camera.

Go to the drug store, buy a pair of reading glasses, they are marked in the same unit of power. Buy a +4 for $5 or $6 and experiment with hand holding the lens in front of your camera. You can break the pair in half and combine the two lenses to make a +8. You can use masking or duct tape or cellophane tape. Joing the ranks of the experimenter and make a mount using a paper towel tube etc.

This way you can experiment and determine if adding a supplemental is for you. If your like what you get, go on the web and buy a good one. Best is a two element (made with two lenses combined together). These two element units are known as “achromatic” meaning without color.

Good luck,
