Photography Question

Autumn Hernandez

Hong Kong flash meter ok?

I was looking on ebay for the Sekonic L-308S and came across one for $138 brand new. I thought this was a pretty good price, but when I got to reading about it, it said it was from Hong Kong. Do you think it would be a reliable product? Or do you think it's a grey market rip-off that just won't work? Has anyone else ever bought one like this?

China is the counterfeit capitol. Is it workable? I'll give you 1-1 odds.
Is it a probably at least gray market, but giving more of a vibe that it's a counterfeit? I'll give you 5-1 odds.

And if China is the counterfeit capitol, ebay is the counterfeit sales capitol of the world. "Caveat emptor" (buyer beware) although Greg has a slightly different version which means the same thing.

If you really want to find out about this, drop Sekonic an e-mail, give them a link to the ebay ad and just ask them about it. http://www.sekonic.com/pages/contact.php

Take it light...reading that is.
Mark

Autumn, I bought the L358 on EBay never used in box for only $200. Time is money so my suggestion is don't bother doing the research just buy the Sekonic which is also one of the BEST brands and will last for as long as you'll use it. $140 for a no name POS or a little more for a reliable workhorse...you make the decision.

Howdy Oliver. Apparently, you don't get it. Her concern is whether the meter she saw on ebay is ACTUALLY a Sekonic or whether it's a fake or a gray market version without a viable U.S. warranty. Anyone buying anything these days, whether it's on ebay or elsewhere, at least in my opinion, needs to be careful. Because money IS money, and a little time spent doing research is well worth it.

Now, I have a bridge I'm selling this week only. It's located in San Francisco, comes in a lovely orange, weather resistant paint, well-lit at night, visible in the fog and has potential for making good income with toll traffic. Interested Oliver??? Oliver??? Anybody??? Class......
Take it light.

The GG Bridge is Maroon and I grew up in Sausalito on the other side of the bridge you're talking about...is it for sale now because toll is up to $5 and it would be a great purchase. I'll have my attorney check into that thanks Mark...cheers

maroon like dark brick red and they never finish painting it. Once they finish they start over again so you can imagine how much overspray I removed from my car over the years. I'm hoping to get a shoot from the top of the North Tower but working out the details and deciding which model and what we're gonna do...should be cool.

Well, unless we can deduct the cost for the primer so I can get it to orange, won't be able to make a deal.

Depends on the sunlight and the time of day actually. I've seen it deep orange late in the afternoon and kind of reddish maroon in the mid morning- early afternoon. But that was from my old neighborhood at 21st ave. between Irving and Judah. Everything looks tainted, errrrr tinted, from the Marin side. LOl !!!
Take it light.

Come on Mark, Marin is beautiful and besides we're the ones that buy the paint for the bridge when we pay $5 each morning on the way to work in our BMW, Mercedes and Porsches. Don't be a Hater.
