Digital vs. portrait film
What do you think produces better quality/natural color portraits? Portrait film, or a digital camera set to portrait setting? I have both cameras and not sure which one would be better for portraits.

In my opinion, for whatever it's worth, I feel that protrait film is much better at rendering flattering and subtle skin tones and whites than digital "film". I shoot with a Mamiya 645AFD and a Canon 5D.

The film vs. digital debate is one that can go on for days (and it probably will). My only comment is that you're not really comparing apples to apples. Setting a digital camera to the portrait setting is not the same as using portrait film. Portrait film is color-balanced for portraits. All the portrait setting does is set the aperture to wide open to get a shallow depth-of-field. By the way, many film cameras have a portrait setting, also. It's not just a digital thing. I agree Brady..I have both film and digital, and used both for my portraits. I can't tell the difference.

I would use the portrait film. Of course, since I don't have a digital camera that would be my only choice! Why not try both and see which YOU prefer.
