Pic. in the church without light hello!I was wondering how do you hadle the situation when you can't use a light during some ceremony in the church. It happened to my recently that the priest asked me to turn off my light. What should I do to get nice pictures without flash???

This is usually the case in most churches. But, I don't understand the question. What do you do if you can't use flash? Shoot without it.

You didn't say if you were using film or digital, but in either case the answer would be the same. Get the highest ISO film you can find or set your digital to the highest ISO. Set your mode to AV (aperature Priority) and choose the widest possible aperature, then shoot and hope for the best. I can't really give you a better answer than that without knowing just exactly how much light we're talking about. If your talking really dim lighting, then there isn't much hope in getting clear shots, especially if the subjects are moving and you don't have or can't use a tripod. If the interior is pretty bright, then at ISO 800, you still may be able to eek out 1/30 or even 1/60 sec if you have a fast enough lens. Or, you could go to a church where they allow the use of flash. LOL

It is obvious that this is a begginner......I have answered many questions here on BP but sometimes one needs to take the time to seek and learn and make an effort and I thought this was the time...it is not because I did not want to take the time to give an answer..... I do not feel that because of one answer NOW she knows what to do....I feel that strongly letting her kow how to SEARCH an answer she would learn more...I do not know if you are more knowledge or not.... I am not an arrogant person and do not CLAIN to know it all...

Bob.....I felt you thought I gave a lazy answer....but sometimes I feel that people want the easy way out and an INSTANT answer to their problems or questions instead of searching it out or inquiring further.... I guess it is my commnon sense at finding things out....I would do a search before asking an answer to a question like this and then if I still needed further instruction...etc etc etc I am sorry I jumped the gun.. I respect your time and effort at helping this person.

Thank you Debbie and no harm done. Just didn't want you to feel as though I was attacking you in any way. Personanlly, I enjoy reading through the threads and answering whatever questions I can. I have always enjoyed sharing what I know with others who share the common interest. And I'm sure this same type of question has been posted on this site hundreds of times. But that's okay! Sometimes people need feed back from other people too. Interstingly enough, I don't consider myself a people person, but I do enjoy reading through the threads and helping those I can. If it bothers you that you see the same question again here-just don't answer! Thank that there are still people who don't care to answer the same question all over! Like Bob! Oh no I did not feel frustrated.......it is just that I feel one answer is not and never IS enough...I did not know if you and others know that they can put a work and search the topic they are interested in and get tons of information. I do answer lots of questions here and participate a lot....I felt a wealth of information is at your fingertips.......I really NEVER get frustrated.. and never at someone trying to learn.... Patrycja, I think you misunderstood Debbie's intent. I think she was just trying to let you know that there may be other answers in addition to the ones you get here. Sipho, I know she's sexy!!!! Now, back to the question. If you are shooting with your film camera, (I see you have both a film SLR and a digital P&S) I would suggest using the fastest lens you have (the one with the largest aperature), which will probably mean you should use your normal prime lens rather than a zoom. For the film, I suggest Fuji NPZ800 (being changed to Pro 800Z). Although I really like Kodak films, the Fuji handles mixed lighting a bit better. You might also want to take along some Fuji Superia 1600. Although it may be a bit grainy, compared to a slower film, it will give you an extra stop.

"and Kerry.....you know I'm sexy????" Yeah, baby! LOL Gotta tell a story here that has nothing to do with this thread. I shot a wedding this weekend. The bride was cute (early 20's) and the groom was nice looking too. The maid of honor was a pretty girl too but the sister of the groom was a knock-out. At least I thought she was the sister of the groom. Now I'm a married man and I adhere to my vows but it doesn't hurt to look. OK? Even when the girl is about half my age. Well, I got to talking with here later and asked if she was the sister of the groom and she said "No, I'm the groom's mother". I turned to the lady standing next to her and said "I thought you were the groom's mother". She said, "No, I'm the grandmother". I told them "I don't know what water you ladies are drinking but give me some, NOW!"
