When I print pictures on my printer they are much darker than they appear on the computer. Why is that and what do I need to do to fix that problem. Any information would be appreciated.

They're always be somewhat darker because the monitor is light by tramission, the print is light by reflection. Also be somewhat less vibrant because of that.
If it's darker to the point of not being able to judge how the print is going to come out, than you need to adjust your monitor, or look at the printer profiles.
Adjusting the monitor may just need a simple change of the brightness levels. There are monitor calibrators that you can buy, but that may not be necessary in your case.
A change in your printer profiles can adjust the amount of ink that your printer uses, if it consistantly applies too much for the paper type.
