Photography Question

Shannon Beauford

Just purchased my first DSLR

after much thought and "trying out" various cameras...I decided on the Pentax *ist dl. I really loved the Canon rebel xt but it was too big for my small hands to hold comfortably, the pentax was a better fit. I also just purchased a Lensbaby 2.0 and a Lensbaby macro kit.

Does anyone have any experience with a lensbaby? any tips to offer pertaining to the Lensbaby?

Congratulations on your new DSLR! Lensbaby is a fun thing to use - a really really "poor man's view camera" since you can alter the position of the lens element with relation to the image plane.

Basically, you will see that as you pull (or push) the lens the area of focus changes, and if you tilt the lens (say, by pulling back the left side more or less than the right) then the plane of focus changes. The tricky part is getting used to the awkwardness of holding the camera body and simultaneously using your index fingers to pull and torque the lensbaby AND keep a finger on the shutter button.

The beauty of the DSLR is that you can take a zillion shots to practice, without worrying about film costs, so just practice, practice practice...

No, I haven't had any trouble with it, it's a great camera! I have the 18-55mm that came with the camera, but It's my least favorite lens and I pretty much only use it for my infrared photos. I also have a Toyo 70-200mm MF lens and a pentax 50mm prime MF, both bought from ebay for less than $20 each. the camera works great with manual focus lens too cause the camera will beep and the focus symbol will light up in the viewfinder when the focus is perfect instead of trying to guess at it. The camera gets even better when you start using it on manual. it did take me a while to figure out the shutter/aperture ratio, but now that I have it down I work only in manual and I'm unstoppable! HAHAHA! :)
