Photography Question

Is it really a good deal??

I just thought some of you might want to know of my recent experience. On April 22, 2006 I ordered a Canon Digital Rebel XT from www.expresscameras.com for the low low price of only $499.00 (body only). On April 24th, I called the company to confirm my order as they requested and was informed that they wanted to also sell me a battery for the camera for only $199.00 (on sale)I told them that I can get it here for much less ($21.84 same brand) and that I only wanted the camera body. I was promised that it would be shipped 3 to 5 day express on April 25th, 2006, so when it still hadn't arrived on May 3rd, 2006 I called them again and was told it had been placed on hold "pending battery order". I again informed them that I didn't want the battery and again was promised that it will be shipped on May 3rd, 2006. I will be calling them on May 4th, 2006 to get a shipment confirmation and if it hasn't been shipped yet will cancel the order (TG my credit card co. is backing me on this!)

So I guess the moral of the story is ... if you don't receive your order is it still a good deal???

It wasn't a good deal to begin with. That company, and others like it, have the game going. Offer the body at a low price, then try to sell you other things that should come with the body as standard. Cancel your order right away.
It's the battery, or it would be the charger, or something else they would try to sell it to you seperately. Your order will always be on hold as long as you don't agree on buying the battery separately.
Go to B&H, Adorama, or Calumet if you want to buy on-line.

Ditto. It's highly unlikely that you will get your camera. They will probably tell you that it is on backorder. If you cave in and buy the overpriced "accessories", then you might get the camera shipped, but you might find that your manual is not in English and you don't have a valid US warranty from Canon.

For more info on these guys, read this thread OR this thread.

In the long run, you will always get a better deal from an authorized dealer, like the ones Greg listed.

  And as always:

If a deal sounds too good to be true, it usually is!

Thanks for the support everyone. I am proud to report that I have already cancelled my order through express camera (about 10 minuets after reading the second response!) and placed it through B&H who I have ordered from repeatedly and am satisfied with!!
I found the links & info very helpful.
So ... dunce hat is off & the brain cramp is over LOL!!
