Selling photos in a local shop

I was thinking about selling some of my photos in a local coffee shop or other local business. I have a few questions about it.
First of all, has anyone one done this before and if so how did you go about getting your photos displayed and things, is it just ask the owner if it's alright or is there other things I should do first? I know the coffee shop sells local art so I know they have done it before.
Second, what sizes should I sell, or what is the most popular sellers? I was thinking of having some hanging on the walls and also having a bin so people can choose from a wider selection. Also should the ones that are hung, should they be framed?
Signing the photos; where should I sign the photo, or mat, and is there anything else that I should include with my signature?
Thank you for your input.

Hi Will. I have some work hanging in a framing gallery. However, I was approached by the owner. She received my business of matting and framing with her and then she displays it for sale. I receive all proceeds. I have thought about going to the local Starbucks as I know they offer to display. I would definetly have them matted and framed...even if it is in generic white mat and simple black frame to keep costs down...framing is sometimes personal. I did spend some money matting and framing due to where my work is hung, but would probably do it more inexpensive if it were somewhere else. I signed the mats, but if you are doing the inexpensive route, you may want to PS a signature right onto the photo, in the bottom right corner. Just some thoughts. Best of luck to you.
Margie

One thing you've probably thought of already, but for the benefit of others is that aside from your own signature on a print, make sure you've got a signed release for any photo you display, whether it's for people or private property.

Good luck
Mark

In my case I get all of the profit because I have already spent the money with them to frame the shots. My guess is that a coffee shop or place like one would charge you a commission.

Personal preference. However, if they are hanging on a wall in a coffee shop, 5x7's probably wouldn't work...you would need larger prints. In my case, I discussed with the owner what shots they wanted and where. On one wall, I have 3 18x24's hanging, but on another wall I have 2 8x6's matted to 11x14.
