Prom portraits

A gal I did senior portraits for wants to hire me for outdoor prom portraits at a local park. There will be about 16 kids total. This is a first and trying to figure out how to put this together. Pricing, what kind of prints anything. They want these instead of waiting in line at the prom for the pictures there. I want to price them so that they are affordable and so that they will buy them. I have no idea what they pay to have them done at the prom. SHould I require the payment before hand so I know who wants them done? I don't want to waste my time if they are not going to purchase any prints. So I was thinking of putting together a small package and then require payment in full before the shoot. My next concern is posing.. Any suggestions on casual poses for couples that are not really "a couple" If they are just going as friends then I don't want to do poses that are going to make them uncomfortable. Anyone with experience in this???? Thanks.

Hi Kristi;

If you are shooting outdoors, I would suggest some reflectors. There are several types available, some being dual sided. You can check them out at most camera shops to see what's right for you.

As for posing, most true couples will almost pose themselves. If they are comfortable with each other, they will look natural in any pose.

Friends as couples are a different story. Here's an idea for them. Set up near a short park bench so you don't have to move far. Have the couple sit kinda close to each other with their bodies turned toward each other. Have them both look straight at the camera.
Smile and say cheese, click.

Have fun and keep shooting,Mark H.

  Hi Kristi, ive done some prom photos and if the couple is a dating couple I stand them the traditional way of her in front, \\ and if they're just friends I pose them so that they're turned at an angle toward each other but not touching /\ (sorry each forward and backward slash repersent how each person is standing )
