Photography Question

Grip action ball head vs. ball head

I am debating between buying the Bogen / Manfrotto 322RC2 Grip Action Ballhead and the Bogen / Manfrotto 488RC2 Midi Ball Head.
Both are ball heads, and both have a quick release plate. Their cost is comparable.
My question is: What are the advantages or disadvantages of a grip action?
Many thanks.
Anita

The Grip Action Works Great! If You Plan To Use Heavy Cameras And Telephoto Lens That Would Be A Problem For The Pistol-grip Type As It Just Cant Support The Weight Anita...
Most Use Ball-heads That Will Support Their Existing Equipment With Room To Expand To Heavier Equipment At A Latter Time...

Thanks Terry. So, the grip action is handy, but cannot support as much weight as the ball-heads.

It Works Well To About 5 Lbs Anita, After That It Starts Getting A Bit Shaky And Your Keeper Rate Goes Down "Because Of Camera Shake"
I Have Had About 7 Lbs On It And It Was Noticeably Overloaded, But I Still Like It For Lesser Weights..
But I Like My RRS Ballhead Much Better:-)
