Shadow Behind You Subject

I recently did a photo job for a church. I had such a hard time with shadows behind the people. I used a flash that was extended above the camera. There was time to us a reflector board because this was during a homecoming celebration. Please help me. I was able to go in to Photoshop Elements and remove some of the shadows but it very time consuming. Would like to get it right in the first stage.

There are two good ways to reduce shadows behind your subjects, without using a reflector or second light source.

-- raise your flash higher (you did that)

-- move your subjects farther from the background

These two steps, used together, will allow the shadows to fall down behind your subjects, where they will not be as visible.

Thank you for the tips. In the situation that I took pictures I was unable to get them to stay in a certain spot. It was during a church service. I just didn't know if I could do something else. The lighting in this church is very poor. They have flood light to light up the podium. If you can think of other ideas please let me know
