Photography Question

Weston Camera

I have a Weston Camera, WX-7, which I received thru my aunt & uncles estate.
Does anyone know where I can get information on when it was produced and what year it was sold, etc.?
I also have a Kodak instamatic, which was produced in 1968 and sold for $48.00. I got that info from Kodak.
Now, I'd like to get some history on the Weston camera.
Thanks
Charlene

Here's your history, per McKeown's, though you may be disappointed:

"WESTON WX-7 - circa 1985. Novelty 35mm from Taiwan. Cheap box camera disguised to resemble a 35mm SLR. Carefully placed weights make the plastic body feel like a $300 SLR. As a photographic instrument, it rates poorly. As a deceptive work of art, it is fantastic. $1-$5."

The Weston, 'TIME' cameras and others often were given away with magazine subscriptions. Edward Weston, a photographer who often used medium and large-format view cameras probably would roll over in his grave to see his name used on it.

The Kodak 126 Instamatics were the film equivalents of the digital point-and-shoots of yesteryear, basic mass-produced cameras for family snapshots. A few people collect them, but not many. McKeown's value is $15-$35 depending upon model.

  Thank you George.....
Actually, I contacted Edward Weston's daughter, who lives in California. I went to Edward Weston's website and sent an email. She has told me that the camera name has nothing to do with her father.
I offered to send her the camera, so she could have it and she said she would love to have it, so she can give it to her daughter.
Thanks
Charlene

"She has told me that the camera name has nothing to do with her father."

In the sense that the family never authorized its use, of that I'm certain, but the Taiwanese no-name maker didn't pick 'Weston' out of the blue, it was done for a reason. Cameras similar to these have been found in NYC with 'Nikon' or 'Canon' printed on them, often sold to unsuspecting tourists in bait-and-switch schemes for high prices.

I really don't think it is fair to call this camera a "scam". I own one of these and many of the photographs have been of very good quality. It doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the toy-like "Olympia", "Canomatic", etc. cameras you're referring to. Although it isn't technically an SLR camera, the WX-7 does have shutter speeds and aperture settings. While it may not provide the same results as an expensive Canon or Olympus, I doubt I could find a better camera for eight dollars.
